Dental disease begins with an accumulation of bacteria and food particles along the gumline. This buildup is called plaque. If plaque is not removed through regular brushing, the minerals in the saliva of dogs to transform the board in a strongly solidified, viscous, unsightly yellow-brown coating on the base of the teeth called calculus or tartar.
